    Amazon.com Product Description

Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

    Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

    Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

    Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

    Key Game Features

    • Challenging Multiplayer ModesModern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
    • Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
    • An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
    • The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
    • Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
    • Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
    • New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
    • New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
    • New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Awesomeness   July 28, 2010
    Anthony Wathen (Naches, WA USA)
I love this game! Ever since it came out, there has been a few add-ons, and of course plenty of fixes have been implemented since release.

Single Player: Leaving off from number one, you'll play through some very well designed missions. The graphics have vastly improved since mw1, and I will say maybe even the sound. The controls are pretty much the same from number one, but I'd have to say the physics and realism are much nicer. The campaign is not really long, but long enough to bring you in to what the developers have to offer for some good gameplay and an intriguing story.

Multiplayer: The crown gem of call of duty (And most other games for that matter these days), there have been a few things added though, such as cap level is now 70 and you can 'prestige' to earn additional awards and a newly earned emblem. I believe there is 10 prestiges (In other words, reaching lvl 70 10 times), but also prestiging gives you additional challenges that will earn you additional emblems and titles, if you're up for the challenge. One thing people like to pick on about MW2's multiplayer is the lack of dedicated servers, unlike mw1. However, you can live right? I guess not everyone wants to play a couple specific maps though. Overall, multiplayer will leave you with hours of fun to motivate you in unlocking the good stuff.

Other thoughts: $60? First pc game I've ever payed over 50 for! But whatever, as long as its worth it I guess. People like to compare Battlefield BC2 to this game, saying its better, but it all depends on you. There is also the other single player challenge feature that puts a little more fun in the game, but like I said, plenty of things to accomplish on this game. I've currently prestiged once and am at 48, and I think I have like 3 days of gameplay, so it can take a while to get up there!

5 out of 5 stars A fantastic game with a couple problems!   July 26, 2010

Modern Warfare 2 is a big improvement over COD4: Modern Warfare. There is co-op missions, better graphics, etc. The single player is short but tons of fun and epic. Online is where people will spend most of their time. There are many things to unlock and now you can level up to 70.

4 out of 5 stars A few flaws to a overall great game   July 26, 2010
    M. Metzger (Pennsylvania, USA)
This game is actually the first FPS that I really got into playing. I had tried others in the past, but they never really hooked me and I simply assumed the genre was not for me. A friend of mine introduced me to this game and I fell in love with co-op and multiplayer; getting the game for myself in the end.

So lets break down the pros/cons of this game. Pros:
Graphics are very well done. In each level the immersion factor is very high and this really helps with the feel while playing. Nothing looks blocky or lazily rendered
Music really helps fit the mood when in co-op and single player. You really get the feel of an immense life-and-death struggle. It sounds like Infinity Ward got a symphony to play dramatic instumentals for each board.
Compelling storyline. Very cinimatic and entertaining, I could definatly see them trying to cash a movie with this game.
Voice acting, sound effects, ect were all very believable.

    Cons:
Most akimo weapons are very unrealistic and often overpowered in the game. 1887 weapons actually had to be reprogramed because there was too many complaints. That fact that you bearly have to aim, shoot, and can kill a target in one shot even though you have taken multiple hits with an assualt rifle is rediculous to me. Furthermore, to reload while using akimo shotguns is to flip them up in the air and they magically reload and recock themselves; reloading takes about as much time as flicking a lightswitch. Finally, it is not an accurate portrayal to how anyone would weild weapons.
Spawn points. This can be fustrating at times. In the multiplayer you can be respawned over and over again in the same spot with a attack helecopter simply waiting for you. In the story mode you have the problem of the game restarting you directly into the firefight instead of respawing you 30 seconds before that, when the battle hasn't happend yet and you can reevaluate why you died last time. If you want to go back further, many times it means redoing that whole level which could be a good 15-30 minutes of backtracking.
Some parts of the game you cannot interact with. The game does a good job of making objects in the world interactable. For instance you can slash certain windows and break the glass, destroy fire hydrants and water will gush out, ect. But many times it can be frustrating when you can't break some glass such as in the map "Wasteland" you have glass pieces in the windows that can obstruct your view. But for some reason those particular windows cannot be slashed like others can. I realize that it can be hard to program for each and every window, but I would like if they kept working on it in the form of updates.
Additional content is completely overpriced. You a few maps (half of which have been reused from past Call of Duty games) you get in these packages usually about 5 games for $15. Compared to nearly every other downloadable addon for PS3 games, this is extremely overpriced for what you are getting. Friends that have bought the packages have told me that they were expecting more for what they paid for. Suffice to say, I have never bought any of those packages and won't until the price drops to a more reasonable level.

Dispite these flaws I do not see any reason why this game should not be given a try, espeshially for those who are into the FPS genre.

5 out of 5 stars best game ever   July 25, 2010

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is easily the best video game I have ever played. When I first played it before I owned it, I knew that I had to get this game right away. I knew I trusted Amazon.com because they always have the best price and ship right away. I placed the order on June 22, 2010 for 43.72 with 3.99 shipping. I was hoping to have it by the 27, and I received it on the 25. I have also purchased idems previously on Amazon for a reasonable price and shipping and recieved them within about 3-5 days. I would defenetly recomend Amazon for online shopping, they have not dissapointed me once.
