A couple of years ago, I got an Atari CD-ROM from a box of cereal. It had all the Atari console and arcade games that I recognize, including Centipede and Battlezone. They plan exactly as I remember them.
Does anybody else here have that disk? I got hooked all over again on a couple of them.

I remember Joust! The games I really spent time with from the arcades were Space Invaders, PacMan, Avadar and Galaxian, to name a few.
I'd be afraid to see how much money I pumped into those…

I used to have an atari system too. That was when i was just 3 years old. It was great back then but it was overshadowed by the NES with SMB.

The crazy thing about the disk I mentioned is that a few months after I got mine out of a box of Cheerios, I saw an arcade game at Costco with what I expect are the identical games for over $3,000.
That's significant hardware of course – It's an actual arcade game, with all the games. But I think it's amazing that they were giving the programs away for free in the cereal.

I don't know, seems reasonable to me. Cds fit easily into a cereal box, and it's certainly not a 'crappy' prize like most are now. Anyway, I doubt the companies that originally produced the games are around anymore (aside from Atari, but they're in software now) so the property is probably pretty cheap to license.

even though the games were simple I really loved them. Pac man seemed so advanced at the time, to think that little blips could keep us so engaged for hours and hours

Atari isn't bad. I like to play that for a change of pace. I like variety and I love to collect all different kinds of games.
