Netflix coming to the Wii

The speculation is finally over with. Netflix has announced today that it will bring its streaming movie service to the Nintendo Wii this Spring. Following its huge success on Xbox live, Netflix made the transition to the PS3 sparking many to wonder about its probability of making it to the Wii. Well, now we know! Whether this will help boost the overall appeal of the Nintendo Wii remains to be seen. The disadvantages to this is that the Wii doesn’t have a hard drive and it doesn’t have high-definition capability.
Wii owners will need a streaming disc to watch the movies and none of the flicks will be available in HD-quality. This will make it even harder for the Wii to compete with the Xbox 360 because it does stream in HD and it doesn’t require you to put a disc in every time you wanna watch a movie. If I wanted to do that I would just rent a DVD! Outside of those facts it is good news for Nintendo I suppose. But, it hardly seems appealing considering that you could just as easily have the movie sent to your house!
As with the PS3, which also requires a streaming disc(I haven’t figured that one out yet), Wii owners who are already Netflix subscribers can visit www.netflix.com/Wii to claim your free streaming disc and the service will be free with your existing subscription. Good luck with that Wii owners, but I will stick with Netflix on Xbox Live where I can click on the movie or TV show and commence the popcorn eating without getting off my couch!
