Modern Warfare 2 sells over 4.7 million in 24 hrs
To say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the blockbuster of all video games is an understatement. It was confirmed that MW2 sold 4.7 million copies in its first day on store shelves beating out the previous champion Grand Theft Auto 4 at 3.6 million units. The only major difference is that GTA4’s total was the worldwide figure and MW2’s total is only for 3 regions! As of now, the 4.7 mil total includes sales in the U.S., Canada and the UK!
That’s $310 million dollars in ONE day and that is not including the rest of the world’s game sales! It absolutely blows my mind!! I knew that this game was going to be a huge hit considering the overwhelming success of the first Modern Warfare game, but good grief I didn’t expect this type of number. One has to think that such a boost as this bodes well for the gaming industry as a whole as it wraps up the year and prepares for 2010!
So what will the total sales tally come too when the rest of the world chimes in with their numbers? Maybe 7, 8 or 10 million units? I can only imagine! It also begs the question, what would sales for Halo 3 have been like if it had been released on multiple platforms and not exclusive to Xbox 360? Oh, the possibilities!
