PS3 to Play PS2 Games once Again!

419bnlif6ll_sl160_aa115_A new patent filing by Sony hints at the development of a software upgrade that will allow the use of PS2 games in its PS3 consoles. From what we can tell the new patent enables a software upgrade in the cell processor that allows the PS3 to emulate the PlayStation 2 Games.  This would in theory allow the PS2 games to run seamlessly on the PS3 console. There is no word if current Ps3’s will be able to get this upgrade or if it will just be launched in the much rumored PS3 slimline, which has a possible launch for later this year. The early Ps3’s had a specific hardware in them to allow this but later models did not. The real question is why take it away then relaunch it later.   Does this spell the death of the PS2 permanently or just a continuing effort by Sony to try and catch the Wii and Xbox360 in players.  Sony has not let on to what they are doing and as we say we don’t really now either…I am not ready to the throw the Ps2 in the GameAttic yet but the end is near!
