Xbox Live To get Twitter, Facebook, and Last.FM
Good news, 360 gamers: Soon you won’t have to move away from your television to tell your friends you’re currently in front of your television. Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 will be getting facebook and Twitter integration this fall.
None other than The Guild’s Felicia Day was brought on stage to show off facebook on the 360. It uses the same standard Xbox dashboard menus, and basically allows all the usual facebook options: Users can see friend updates and post their own, add friends, view photos, etc. An application called facebook Connect will also be included, which allows gamers to take pictures from games and share them with friends. This isn’t just a normal web page of facebook and Twitter, it’s optimized to work seamless within your friends list without actually signing into the normal page. Imagine a world where all the people you owned on Halo, you know get to see pictures of their family crying after their defeat.
Twitter on the 360, meanwhile, is also pretty much what you would expect: You can post Tweets right from your console, and keep up with your friends’ messages. Once again, both facebook and Twitter are coming this fall.
Last.fm is also coming soon, this service will be free also and will allow the use of playing live music on the Xbox. The music will be streamed right from the internet and there are different channels, play lists etc.
Overall to recap of the new updates for Xbox Live facebook, Twitter, and Last.fm will all be added free of charge to gold subscribers. I know many people are thinking they would have no use for this or would rather do this on their computer. I believe the main theme from all the press conferences from the first day was multiple ways of communications in games and creating unique user experiences. Facebook and Twitter enable the users of Xbox Live to connect with other gamers and players of the same games you are playing. I ask everyone how many times have you wondered who is playing online, or want to know when your clan logs on, well twitter enables that you could get a text message when someone logs in or they send out message to everyone in the clan letting them know a game has broken out.
This is something I have wanted for a long time, we are going to see many things come from this, I look forward to playing Modern Warfare or Halo and posting screen shots instantly of my friends getting owned!
I hope everyone else is looking forward to this, and I am glad this intigration is comign out, what are everyone elses thoughts?
