A new patent filing by Sony hints at the development of a software upgrade that will allow the use of PS2 games in its PS3 consoles. From what we can tell the new patent enables a software upgrade in the cell processor that allows the PS3 to emulate the PlayStation 2 Games. This would in theory allow the PS2 games to run seamlessly on the PS3 console.
